Rally To Do List

I've never organized a rally/demonstration, but I feel strongly enough about building a strong voice in Sam's favor that I'm willing to take the lead.

Notice I say "lead".  Obviously I need some help.

Here's a list of stuff that I imagine will need to be taken care of:

1. Date/time and location, all need to be legal!
2. Find some folks who would be willing to get up and deliver some positive words;
3. Volunteers to make and hang signs before the event;
4. PA system;
5. Contact local media (Willamette Week, The Mercury, The Portland Tribune, The Oregonian, KATU, KGW, KOIN, Bikeportland.org, etc.);
6. Actually hold the event.

So I'm issuing a Formal Call for Help.  Please, if you can help with any of these things, contact me ASAP in the comments.  We need to get rolling with this.

  1. thanks hollie for making the blog and getting this started. I've been rather upset about the whole thing since I heard yesterday morning. As far as what I know now, I believe his apology is enough and that Sam should and still needs to be the mayor of Portland.

    Perhaps we can have a bicyclist Rally this Friday in either park blocks at 5:30 or 6 pm.

  2. hey, I love that you are doing this!
    I have a little experience organizing such thing, and am willing to help.
    In terms of news cycles, weekdays before 2pm are best for rallies, as this allows time for editing for the evening news. Lunch hour rallies, then, are popular for obvious reasons. That said, doing something is better than doing nothing.
    Let me know how I can help

  3. It's a good idea. I'm starting an online effort, myself. Doing my best to also direct people here.

  4. Over on Just Out, there's a comment about a possible rally on Tuesday the 27th, noon. It'd require some serious torquing of my work schedule, but I'd be able to make that one. Also might make a bike rally on Friday.

    I've lived in Portland nearly 30 years (I'm 40) - and never 'til now have I been so utterly disappointed in my fellow Portlanders. The rush to judgment and self-righteous castigation is really deeply disturbing.

  6. Do you have any details on the Tuesday rally? I might be able to swing Friday as well, if something happens then

  7. I think it's great that you've started this blog. I've been linking to it on my Facebook account, and have started a group on there under the same name that is open membership: http://www.facebook.com/topic.php?topic=7035&uid=45769088774#/group.php?gid=45769088774

    Once I hear something concrete from here or otherwise, I will post it on the Facebook group to get the word out. I know it's not much, but since Facebook can be such a powerful networking tool, I figured it couldn't hurt.

  8. I'm in for a rally as well. As you know, I have ambivalent feelings about this whole thing, but if Adams hasn't committed a crime, I want him to stay our Mayor. And I don't feel his innocence or guilt should be established by the Oregonian, but by a real investigation.

  9. i'll be at any rally and i'll show up way ahead of time/do whatever you need to, to help. sam is my freaking obama and i don't think i'll ever get over it if he's run out of here.

  10. Count me in. I think there's a drastic lack of perspective going on here, and that Sam Adams can move beyond this to be a great mayor if we give him that chance.

  11. I will be at the rally because I want Sam Adams to continue to be our mayor. His leadership and vision is sorely needed at this time. I am concerned with what my mayor does at city hall, not in his bedroom.
